,Welcome to Mrs. Paukowits's science page! The 2023/2024 school year is Mrs. Paukowits's ninth year with the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, and her fifth as a full-time teacher at Grand Avenue. For the 2023/2024 school year, Mrs. Paukowits will be working together with Mrs. DePalma in the Physical Science 8R classrooms, as well as teaching two sections of Earth Science. Mrs. Paukowits is very excited to meet her students for the 2023/2024 school year and help them soar to new heights in science and exploration!
Mrs. Paukowits studied Atmospheric Science at Cornell University and worked as a consulting meteorologist specializing in air quality and forensics for eleven years. During that time, she volunteered as a teacher and coach and decided to pursue a second career in education. Mrs. Paukowits received a Master of Science in Education from Hofstra University just after the birth of her first child. When her younger child headed off to kindergarten, she joined the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
Mrs. Paukowits lives in the District, with her husband, two children and mini goldendoodle Ruby. It is extremely important to Mrs. Paukowits that all of the students in the district (including her own children) receive the best possible education and teacher support in every aspect of their education. Mrs. Paukowits would like to assure her students and their families that she will do everything possible to help keep them safe and healthy, while providing fun and educational activities and opportunities.
In addition to teaching science, Mrs. Paukowits advises The Weather Club at Grand Avenue. The Weather Club meets ever other week to forecast the weather, discuss storms, and meet real meteorologists. In addition, the Weather Club provides weather information during the morning announcements using our own new weather observing station at Grand Avenue! All Grand Avenue students are invited to join. See Mrs. Paukowits for the Google Classroom Code so that you don't miss out on this exciting club!
In her spare time, Mrs. Paukowits enjoys volunteering with Merrick PAL and the school PTAs . In 2021, Mrs. Paukowits was awarded an Honorary Life Award from the Camp Avenue School PTA. She also enjoys attending her children's soccer and baseball games, reading, writing and traveling with her family. She especially enjoys "educultural" and "nature" travel, which allows her to explore our beautiful world!
